Now in its 77th year, Nine O’Clock Players Theatre for Children is one of the oldest and most respected of its kind in America. Under the umbrella of Assistance League of Southern California, Theatre for Children is operated and supported by volunteer members of Nine O’Clock Players Auxiliary who act in the plays and handle all aspects of the productions. Each year, two fully staged plays chosen from classic children’s literature are presented in the fall and spring to approximately 17,000 youngsters.
Tuesdays and Thursdays during the run of each show, nine invitational performances are specifically presented at no charge for economically and physically challenged children.
The productions are also offered to school groups as an addition to their normal educational curricula. Performances are offered at a special ticket price, and NOP supplies these groups with free educational kits to enhance each presentation. The money collected from Field Trip productions and weekend audience ticket sales pay for transportation and tickets for the invitational children.
